BRINGING THE GALAXY HOME IN A BOX
Restoring the Voyager Centrifuge for TREKCETERA MUSEUM part 3.
I had the wonderful opportunity present itself in being asked to restore the screen used centrifuge from Star Trek:Voyager for the
TREKCETERA MUSEUM.
Here concludes the restoration.

With all the bits painted and cleaned and buffed where needed that left a final light and motor test after initial assembly. I began by first mounting the upper platform onto the top of the unit. From there I installed the mechanics of the unit inside the housing of the centrifuge and checking everything fit in place, I soldered in the switches and flasher led circuit. A quick flick of the switch and yes all was good, everything worked!
At this point it was just the adding back of the details, the black acrylic vial holder, switch plates. The acrylic parts were re-applied using a good quality double sided (very thin tape) so no gap shows between the plates and surface of the prop itself. I had installed new batteries as well , (8) D size and (5) 9 volt. At some future point I have discussed switching it to run on AC as well for the museum display.

With the main work having been completed, I had one detail left to finish. A graphic for the left front side. I spoke to Rick Sternbach about it as he had designed the original prop. Unfortunately the graphic for the control had been left up to the art department, so he was unable to provide any reference for it. So in order to facilitate having the prop ready for the opening of the museum, I forged ahead from a single screen capture and created one. When I have the opportunity (or if someone out there knows what it looked like) I will replace this graphic. After some trial and error , I came up with something that I feel maintains the look of the original.
I hope you enjoyed the article on restoring the centrifuge from Star Trek: Voyager.
